United Bank will be having its own special St. Patrick's Day celebration March 17.

The financial institution with dual headquarters in Charleston and Washington, D.C. will mark its 175th anniversary March 17.

Customer appreciation events are planned at each office throughout the company to celebrate the milestone.

"It's our tradition to invite customers and friends alike to stop by one of our offices for cake and refreshments," said United Bank President Rick Adams.

The doors first opened at United on St. Patrick's Day in 1839, but the bank has grown to $11.5 billion in assets with more than 1,700 financial professionals and 133 offices in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington. It is the largest West Virginia-headquartered company.

"We have some of the most dedicated and talented employees of any banking company in the country," Adams said.

United Bankshares Inc., the parent company of United Bank, is ranked the 48th largest banking company in the United States based on market capitalization. United increased dividends for the 40th consecutive year to its shareholders and recently completed its 29th merger with the acquisition of Virginia Commerce Bank.

United also donates more than $2 million each year to several community organizations, including the United Way, the YWCA, The Salvation Army and Kids Count.
