3 Plead Guilty to Drug-Related Charges in Federal Court

Three people appeared before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull and entered guilty pleas on drug-related charges.

Jason Dwight Mackenzie, 33, from Elkins, enter a guilty plea for the distribution of Buprenorphine.  Mackenzies is free on bond pending sentencing and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Keith Allen Poteete, 48, from Elkins plead guilty for the distribution of Buprenorphine within 1,000 feet of the Davis Street Park Playground.  Poteete faces up to 30 years in prison.

Dennis Lynn Smith, 56, from Upper Tract, entered a guilty plea for maintaining a drug involved premise used for storage and manufacture of methamphetamine.  Smith faces up to 20 years in prison.

Mackenzie and Poteete's cases were the result from the work of the Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, which consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, U.S Forest Service, Randolph County Sheriff's Department, Tucker County Sheriff's Department, and was assisted by the DEA Tactical Diversion Squad.
