The Monongalia County Commission has approved the Sheriff's request to add a new deputy.

The department will lose three employees this spring, two to retirement and one to the State Police. Each were high ranking members of the department.

Sheriff Al Kisner said it take a while to train new deputies.

"At least a six or seven month period after you hire somebody before they're even close to being out on their own handling their own calls. At the end of that it's going to be a benefit obviously because we have an additional office to handle calls for service," Kisner said.

There will be a surplus from the difference between the higher-ranking deputies' salaries and the salary for an entry level deputy.
