Update: House and Dumpster Fires in Morgantown Under Investigation

Posted: Updated:

Police and emergency personnel responded Monday afternoon to a house fire on Euclid Avenue in the South Park neighborhood of Morgantown.

Neighbors called the Morgantown Police Department and said there was smoke coming from the top floor of a duplex.

The fire started just before 3:30 p.m.

Streets surrounding the house were temporarily closed while firefighters put out the fire.

The Morgantown fire department says the fire was caused by thrown out smoking materials.

Fire officials say there is around $25,000 worth of damage to the duplex.

A downstairs tenant was the only person home at the time.

Firefighters say there were no injuries and the home is not a total loss.

The Morgantown Fire Department is also investigating three dumpster fires that were reported early Sunday morning on Grant Avenue and McLane Alley.

Those fires included a dumpster and a pile of mattresses.

The department says an apartment building was damaged.

Fire officials believe these fires were intentionally set.

Anyone with additional information about the dumpster fires should contact the Morgantown Arson Hotline at (304) 225-3586.
