31st Annual Frank Loria Awards Banquet features Local Winners

The 31st annual Frank Loria Awards Banquet was held on Monday evening from the Bridgeport Conference Center. The event is mean to showcase the best local high school football players in Harrison County, all while keeping Frank Loria's name alive in the community.

Loria played his college football at Virginia Tech in the mid 1960's alongside current Hokies Head Football Coach Frank Beamer. Beamer served as a guest speaker for the event.

Loria hailed from Clarksburg, West Virginia and starred at Notre Dame High School. His life came to a tragic end in 1970 when he died on the Southern Airlines Flight 932 that killed most of Marshall University's football team. He was serving as the Marshall defensive backs coach at the time.

The event is a way to keep his name alive, while highlighting the top moments and people who made Harrison County high school football a memorable one in 2013.
