CHARLESTON, WV -

After a national search led by the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra Presidential Search Committee, Joe Tackett has been hired as the president of the WVSO. The committee was comprised of members of the WVSO Board of Directors, musicians and staff. Tackett will join the WVSO on June 1.

"I cannot wait to come to Charleston and join its thriving arts community," says Tackett. "Having performed as a musician with the West Virginia Symphony in the past, I look forward to assuming my new administrative role in helping bring Maestro Cooper's musical vision to all of West Virginia. The West Virginia Symphony is an organization that provides great, live orchestral music for the region and is a cornerstone of the cultural landscape."

Tackett has been the executive director of the Reading Symphony since 2010. Previously, he served as the executive director of the Lexington Ballet from 2009 to 2010. He also was director of education and musician services for the Lexington Philharmonic from 2005 to 2009.

"I am confident that with Joe's leadership, the WVSO can continue to fulfill its mission in providing music experiences of high artistic quality and keep our strong commitment to education," says John Elliot, Chairman of the WVSO Board. "Joe brings a wealth of knowledge to our organization with experience in performance, education and administration."

Cindy McGhee, chairperson of the Search, said, "We had a very active search committee with representatives from all WVSO constituencies including the board, Maestro Grant Cooper, WVSO musicians, string educators, staff and the West Virginia Symphony League that formed a broad coalition of individuals that care about the future of the symphony."
