Stonewall Resort Prepared For Warm Seasons

ROANOKE -

It may have looked quiet at Stonewall Resort over the past few months while the resort was hidden under the snow. Staff members have been busy getting the resort ready for another spring and summer season, its busiest season every year.

"We've been busy here touching up paint jobs, and getting our boat Little Sorrel ready, preparing the grounds at our golf course, really to just prepare our guests for a wonderful experience in the beauty of our greatest asset, our lake and its surrounding lands," said Samantha Norris.

The resort and lodge require plenty of work, but the golf course is an even bigger task, especially when snow covered the links earlier this week. Despite that, the pro shop said it'll be ready to open the course on Saturday, and expects to see improved numbers from last year.

"We have two events with the West Virginia Golf Association again this year, two big events with them, so we're happy to do those kind of things. A lot of our day groups, tournament groups, charity events, things like that are falling into place, so we anticipate being a thousand rounds, hopefully, more than what we did last year, twelve-hundred rounds or so," said resort golf pro Randy Hernly.

To keep up with a faster pace in the spring and summer, the resort has beefed up its staff numbers, and that benefits the county and the region.

"We have staff throughout the winter season as well, but right about now is when we have a large hiring. Our staff goes up to about 350. We're really proud to be a strong employer in the county, and in the region, so for me personally, it means getting part of our team back," Norris said.
