CLARKSBURG -

More than 40 years ago, co-chair of the Mustard Seed Louise Martin and her husband started the Mustard Seed in the basement of their house, and now it has a new location on East Pike Street in Clarksburg.

"The Mustard Seed is one of the smallest seeds in the world, and from that grows a beautiful bush," said Wonda Griffin, co-chair of the Mustard Seed.

Martin, her husband, and other members of Immaculate Conception Church started delivering food to the needy more than 40 years ago, but when they realized people needed clothing too they moved the business to the basement.

"For seven years it was in our basement on Clay Street, but it got so big that we decided to invite the other churches and it's been a great marriage ever since," said Martin.

Since then the Mustard Seed has been located on Church Street, but the building it was in needed demolished, so it has a new location on East Pike Street, which Catholic Charities shares with the food pantry.

"We're just so very blessed that we have all this space. It feels like heaven, it really does. It's like a dream really. We've never had a facility that is so bright and cheerful," Martin said.

Griffin agrees that the new building is a blessing to have.

"It is just heavenly. We have light; the other building was old and dark. We have parking facilities out front," said Griffin.

On Monday a ribbon cutting was held and the new Mustard Seed was officially opened and customers were already checking out the new facility that has food, clothing, household items, and more.

"Anybody that comes to us in need of baby clothes receives brand new clothing. We try to honor the mothers and the babies in that way," Martin said.

The Mustard Seed is always in need of donations, especially food and towels.

You can find the Mustard Seed next to Southern States in the old Madonna Daycare Center. It's open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
