Doddridge County Commission Votes to Keep Ambulance Authority Running

The fate of the Doddridge County Ambulance Authority rested in the hands of Doddridge County Commission on Tuesday.

To the surprise of many, commission discussed an item concerning the Doddridge County Ambulance Authority and if it would be shut down.

Ambulance Authority Executive Director Cole Crim said he was also surprised, because the authority has a good relationship with commission.

"I really don't have the slightest idea. We've been working directly with commission and it's been a fantastic transition into my position. We made significant cuts on the budget, and we've been working very closely. So I'm not sure where this came from today," explained Crim.

But it was possible that the authority would be shut down, so the public showed up to support it and it paid off.

County Commission voted two to one to keep the authority open.

Crim said the Ambulance Authority provides a good service to the whole county, so he was pleased with the decision.

"We provide 24 hour a day, seven day a week advanced life support care. Especially in a rural community, we have a long transport time to the hospital, so providing initial advanced life support care throughout the transport provides great outcomes for patients," said Crim.

Doddridge County Ambulance Authority Treasurer Chris Arnold also said it was great to hear the support from the community.

"It felt fantastic; it felt really good because this is a great organization. They're really hard workers and they have been under such strain, but it has not affected their performance," said Arnold.

Arnold said county commission's decision was in the best interest of residents.

"What they did was they took the residents of Doddridge County into consideration. The residents of Doddridge County won today, they won," explained Arnold.

Crim said the authority will continue to work with commission and take it day-by-day to provide great care for the citizens of Doddridge County.
