ORIGINAL STORY:

Officials with the West Virginia Office of Miners' Safety, Health and Training have confirmed that there was a mine accident in Greenbrier County late Tuesday night.

A mantrip lost it's brakes on an incline at the Greenbrier Minerals Mountaineer Pocahontas #1 mine.  The incident happened at around midnight on Tuesday, April 1.  Eight miners were reported injured. Of those, five were taken to the hospital and three refused treatment.  As of Wednesday morning, two miners were still in the hospital being treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The other three who were taken to the hospital had been treated and released.

The mine is located off of Anjean Road near Rupert. Inspectors with the Officer of Miners' Health, Safety and Training are on the mine site on Wednesday, April 2.
