BETHANY, WV -

An assistant professor of mathematics at Bethany College has been recognized as the 2014 College/University Mathematics Teacher of the Year by the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Adam Fletcher was recognized by his peers at the annual meeting of the WVCTM in early March. His colleagues at the meeting discussed his achievements, including his work preparing four-year plans for students.

Fletcher is adviser to department honor societies Kappa Mu Epsilon and Upsilon Pi Epsilon as well as the Math and Computer Science Club. He played an instrumental part in the development of the department's Placement Exam, a resource needed in order to assist students with an appropriate beginning in their study of mathematics.

Fletcher graduated from Bethany in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, and then earned a master of science degree in mathematics from John Carroll University in suburban Cleveland. He completed additional studies at the University of Georgia. Fletcher returned to the faculty of Bethany College in 2006, and he is now working on a doctorate at West Virginia University.

Bethany was founded in 1840, making it West Virginia's oldest private college.
