Third-year WVU law student scores tops on CPA exam

Posted: Updated:

Third-year West Virginia University College of Law student Alan Wilson has earned the top average score on the four-part West Virginia Certified Public Accountant exam.

Wilson earned an average score of 89.25 out of 99 on the exam.

The West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants will present him with its 2014 Certificate of Merit Award Friday, May 9 in Charleston. The following day, May 10, he will graduate from WVU with his law degree. He has accepted a position to start this fall at the law firm WilmerHale in Washington, D.C.

Wilson said receiving the CPA award reassures him he's on the right career path.

"Corporate law was always the target, and I think the JD/CPA is one of the most valuable degree combinations to do that," he said. "Earning a law degree has been incredible for helping me think more critically."

A native of Blacksville, Wilson earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from WVU in 2011.
