More Than 200 Cattle to be Sold at Beef Expo 2014

The 24th West Virginia Beef Expo kicks off this weekend at Jackson's Mill. For cattlemen, the event offered every product and good imaginable.

"We have seven different breeds of cattle that are here for shows and sales," Executive Secretary for the West Virginia Cattlemen's Association Jim Bostic said.

An estimated 1,500 people will visit the expo this weekend. The event gives the more than 100 registered cattlemen an opportunity to talk about new trends and innovations.

"The cattle industry allows all the people involved in the production system to meet together and talk about what they can provide to producers and what producers need from them," said Bostic.

In addition to the business negotiations, the annual gathering fosters a sense of community between all the farms and representatives involved.

"Most of these people have been here for several years and we know each other and its kind of a fellowship gathering for all the breeds and all the exhibitors," said cattleman Josh Radabaugh from Circle R Farms.

The expo is available to anyone interested in cattle production. Throughout the weekend there will be interactive events and conversations for children and adults of all ages.

"We'd also like to invite the general public," said Bostic. "If they want to just stop by and talk with cattle producers to see where their food is coming from, to see what' s involved in production, we'd be more than happy to just talk."

The cattle will begin being sold on Saturday.
