Safe Community Partnership In the Works for Morgantown and WVU

Posted: Updated:

A first of its kind partnership is in the works in Morgantown.

The city, county, and West Virginia University are working together toward a safe community designation by the National Safety Council.

If they succeed, it will be the first to join "safe community" between a city and a university.

In order to achieve this, an evaluation will have to be conducted to see what is affecting pubic health and safety, as well as work on finding solutions to the problems.

"There are so many people here, at WVU in greater Morgantown, that have incredible skill sets around this topic that just maybe because of circumstance haven't been working closely together toward a common goal so that's again another great value of this process," said Colleen Harshbarger, from Well WVU.

Right now the group is still about a year from creating an application before it can earn the National Safety Seal.
