One person was flown to the hospital Saturday morning after driving his vehicle off of a Route 50 overpass in Ritchie County.

West Virginia State Police Cpl. J.L. Brewer said he received a call from a person trying to locate their employee.  The caller said they had a tracking device on the company vehicle being driven and the device placed it near Cairo.  Cpl. Brewer said while driving near Bonds Creek Bridge he noticed damage to the guardrail.  Cpl. Brewer said upon exiting his patrol vehicle, he noticed a vehicle had traveled about 210 ft. down an embankment between two bridges.  Cpl. Brewer said he yelled down to the man, identified as James Edward Bland, III, of Marietta, Ohio, who cried out for help.  Bland was provided with blankets until EMS arrived.

West Virginia State Police said Bland had fallen asleep while driving and had been lying in the creek for about 6 hours.

Bland was flown by medical helicopter to CAMC Hospital in Charleston.  He is listed in good condition and is expected to be discharged soon, according to hospital officials.
