Buckhannon Police Department Looks for Volunteers

Posted: Updated:
BUCKHANNON -

The Buckhannon Police Department is looking for people for its volunteers in police service.

Chief Matt Gregory said volunteers will assist police in non-enforcement activities like traffic control, administrative duties, and help with programs throughout the county.

To apply, you must be over 18 and there is no age cap. Applicants must also have no convictions.

Gregory said many agencies are developing programs like this.

"It's not at all uncommon to see volunteers with your public safety agencies, police departments are very much included in that. Many departments throughout the area have police auxiliaries or VIPS program or reserve officers with sheriff's departments", said Gregory.

Applications are available at Buckhannon City Hall. An informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on June 4 at Buckhannon City Hall.  Anyone interested can also call Gregory at 304-472-1651 for more information.

The volunteers in police service core will get underway later this summer.
