UHC to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screenings to Community Members

Posted: Updated:
Summer is just around the corner, and the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport wants to help prevent the most common form of cancer: skin cancer.

It offers a free skin cancer screening every year in early spring to spread awareness about sun exposure before people start spending a lot of time outside.

UHC officials are reminding everyone to wear sunscreen every time they go outside, even on a cloudy day and to buy a new bottle every season.

"Like any other medication that has an expiration date, it will lose its effectiveness, so you might think you're getting a 15 SPF, and you might only be getting 5 SPF. So you're better off to just pitch it and buy a new one," said Cathy Libert from UHC's oncology department.

The screenings will be held on Friday, May 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at UHC's Cecil B. Highland, Jr. & Barbara B. Highland Cancer Center.
