ABU, WVWC Athletes Take on Annual Triathlon

Posted: Updated:
Athletes from Alderson Broaddus University and West Virginia Wesleyan College were up bright and early on Sunday morning for a physical challenge - a three-part challenge, to be exact.

More than a dozen students and stuff members competed in the second-annual TRI AB, a triathlon training program.

The triathletes swam 600 yards, biked for more than 10 miles on ABU's campus, and completed a 5K.

Organizer Lara Foster said the 12-week program was well worth it for both herself and the competitors.

"I'm really pumped. This is our TRI AB program. As soon as I came in, I said let's do a triathlon program, get some fitness out here, get people experiencing this new sport that I love.  I think we've probably got about five newbies, so hopefully, when they're done, we'll give them a little certificate and say, 'Yay, you're a triathlete!' I'm so proud of them," said Foster.

Several community members were also in attendance to cheer on the triathletes.
