West Virginia Hunters Welcome First Day of Turkey Season

Posted: Updated:

Hunters here in West Virginia are welcoming turkey season Monday.

McFly Outdoors in Lewis County said hunters had already had a busy morning, checking in five birds before the rain sent people indoors.

Staff said turkey season marks the real beginning of spring for many hunters in the area, and that the gear they sell changes to reflect the warmer weather.

The store still encourages all its customers to stay safe while out in the woods.

"There's a lot of people out walking around in the woods, so we encourage everyone, and encourage them always to wear orange, especially when you're in the woods turkey hunting, especially on opening day of turkey season,” said Kate Garton, of McFly Outdoors.

This year's turkey season wraps up on May 24.
