Government Officials Urge Public to Vote in Primary Election

Posted: Updated:

Early voting for the primary election begins Wednesday across the state, and government officials are stressing the importance of showing up at the polls.

Statistics show voter turnout has decreased significantly over the past several years.

Marion County officials said all Americans have the right to vote, and it has become their duty to do so.

“It's a privilege to vote. If it weren't for all of our veterans have fought over the years, we probably wouldn't have that privilege to vote like a lot of other countries. I think every person ought to make their vote. A lot of people think their vote doesn't count but it does,” said Butch Tennant, the Marion County Commissioner.

The official date of the primary election is Tuesday, May 13.
