Lewis County Commission Reconsiders Hazmat Team Funding

Posted: Updated:

The Lewis County Commission met for its regular meeting in Weston Monday morning.

The commission discussed the possibility of returning funding to the county's volunteer hazmat team.

The team was left out of the coming year's budget due to concerns about its ability to function effectively since many of the volunteers struggle to find time.

The commission wants to be sure any money spent is going to be used efficiently.

"We just have to be responsible for the taxpayers funds. So that being said, as long as it's legitimate, has expenses, and we know where the money is going to, then we have no problem expending the money," said Commissioner Pat Boyle.

Boyle said most of the hazmat incidents in the county can be handled by local fire departments.

The commission will be meeting with the team to determine what action to take in the next few weeks.
