2014 G-MAC Softball All-Conference Selections Revealed

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - On Thursday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference 2014 Softball Championships got going with six games of the double-elimination tournament at Jackson Field. Throughout the day, the G-MAC presented its 2014 All-Conference First and Second Team selections, as well as its Conference Individual Awards.

Highlighting the announcement was the presentation of the Offensive Players of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year. The awards were swept by Trevecca Nazarene University, though Kentucky Wesleyan's senior Kelsey Miller found her way into the group as she was voted Co-Offensive Player of the Year alongside TNU junior Lindsey Stephens. Trojan sophomore Haley Fagan took Pitcher of the Year honors, while Alex Richardson was tabbed Freshman of the Year. TNU head coach Ben Tyree also was recognized with his second-straight Coach of the Year award.

Kelsey Miller led the G-MAC in hitting with a .417 batting average and ranked among the leaders with 55 hits, 32 runs scored and 12 extra-base hits - eight doubles and four triples. Co-Offensive Player of the Year honoree, Lindsey Stephens was second in the league in hitting with a .401 batting average, 55 hits, and 12 doubles. She was also among the leaders with 79 total bases and 34 RBI.

Fagan went 13-6 for the Trojans this year with a 1.87 earned run average, and she also led the league with three saves. She made 23 appearances and pitched 138.1 innings, striking out a league high (tying) 130 hitters. She tied Alderson Broaddus's Megan LaFon for the strikeout crown, though Fagan's numbers are more impressive as she did it in 71.2 less innings pitched.

Richardson, in her first year of collegiate softball, hit .315 with 40 hits. She scored 26 times and drove in 24 more on eight doubles and an impressive seven home runs. She was also very patient at the plate, walking a league high 24 times.

For Coach Tyree, he has guided his program to their second-straight regular-season crown, second-straight top seed in the Softball Championships, and will be looking for its second-straight Tournament Championship this weekend in Vienna.

The Softball Championships continue through Saturday and can be followed live online with live video, audio and stats, with links available on the softball championship page of G-MACSports.com.
