Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced May 7 who will take over as his director of communications.

Chris Stadelman, who previously worked on Tomblin's campaign, will be appointed to the position  May 16. Amy Shuler Goodwin is leaving the position to become the West Virginia Division of Commerce Commissioner and Deputy Secretary of Commerce.

“I’m please he has accepted this opportunity and I look forward to working with him in this new role,” Tomblin said in a statement.

Stadelman has more than 20 years of communications experience. He worked at the Charleston Daily Mail for 10 years in various positions and his wife, Kelly, operated The Parsons Advocate, a weekly newspaper in Tucker County, for seven years.

Stadelman served as communications director for Tomblin’s 2011 and 2012 campaigns. Most recently, he operated Stadelman Consulting, a public relations and research company, and he worked as director of outreach for the West Virginia Press Association.

“I’m excited about this opportunity to work with Gov. Tomblin and his team to help improve the state where I have spent almost all of my life,” Stadelman said.
