Hancock County Launching App That Will Alert Residents About Emergencies
Hancock County, W.Va. -
Local agencies will begin training for a new smartphone app that is coming to Hancock County.
The "heads up" app is a way for residents to be alerted about emergencies in the area. First responders, utilities, and cities will be able to communicate immediately with residents from anything from water boil orders to school cancellations.
The sheriff's department recently received a $30,000 grant from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey to help cover the app purchase and start-up costs. The app is available for Iphones and Android devices and is expected to launch in July.
