During a presentation by Vice President of the Student Government Association Jeffrey Tice at the annual Honors Convocation, West Liberty University students presented Sandra Czernek the Professor of the Year Award for 2014.

“I still can't believe that I get paid to teach history! I love it, and I love my students. They validate my calling through this honor,” she said.

The annual Professor of the Year Award is decided by student nominations of favorite professors, followed by voting to select the final honoree. Czernek, who has received the award once before, has taught history full time at West Liberty University since August 2008 and began her career on the Hilltop as a “senior adjunct” in 2004. She holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with certification in social studies, and a master degree in history, both from West Virginia University. Previously, Czernek was a tutoring coordinator at West Virginia Northern Community College and prior to that, a vocational evaluator for the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services.

She has also taught at the high school level.
