The Bridgeport Police Department is investigating a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and Toyota SUV on Route 50 in Bridgeport.
It happened in front of McDonald's on Route 50 just before 3 p.m. Friday, May 30. Bridgeport Police said an accident re-constructionist has been called in to determine how the accident happened. The motorcycle rider, identified Tuesday, June 3 as David Ralph Allen, of Philippi, was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he later died, said Bridgeport Police. Chief John Walker said charges against the driver of the SUV are pending. The investigating officers will consult the Harrison County Prosecutor's Office to determine which charges are appropriate.
Bridgeport Police identified the driver of the Toyota SUV as Salvatore Cava, 19. Police said Cava exited the McDonald's parking lot and turned left onto U.S. Route 50 and Allen who was driving a white 2001 Harley Davidson, traveling east on U.S. Rt. 50, struck the SUV in the driver's side.
Following the crash, traffic was rerouted through Clarksburg-Terrace Plaza, where Home Depot is located. Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker said Rt. 50 from Lodgeville Road to the eastern exit of the Clarksburg-Terrace Plaza, where Home Depot is located, was closed while the accident re-constructionist worked in the area.
