WVU Integrated Marketing Communications Program Hosts Two-Day Conference

West Virginia University's Integrated Marketing Communications Program is an online program through the P.I. Reed School of Journalism, and on Saturday night, dozens of its students had the opportunity to network with professionals in the field.

Google's Elliott Nix served as keynote speaker at the IMC conference . Nix, who is also an adjunct professor at WVU, showed his audience how technology has influenced the consumer's journey, a valuable lesson for both students and those whose careers have already begun.

"Thirty years ago, an ad would run on the television screen; someone would see it, walk into the store, and then choose among all the projects they could buy. Nowadays, the conversation doesn't stop with the television ad. There's seven conversations in between, where a consumer is faced with a decision before they even walk in the store," said Nix.

"[The program has] opened up a lot of doors for me. The community of students is just amazing, a lot of people are there to help you, a lot of crowd sourcing of ideas, it's awesome," said Colin Haas, a graduate student in the program.

NASCAR's David Higdon and other nationally-recognized leaders in communications also spoke at the event.
