Volunteers Clean Up and Take Care of Cemetery on Chestnut Street in Clarksburg

A group of three men from Aaron's Lease to Own in Bridgeport did some volunteer work on Sunday by cleaning up the cemetery on Chestnut Street in Clarksburg.

The grass at the cemetery was a few feet high, and after some research Robert Anderson found no one takes care of it.

He said the city told him the cemetery has changed hands so many times, it’s not sure who is in charge of taking care of it.

So they brought their own equipment and were out at 7 a.m. Sunday cutting the grass and weed eating.

Anderson said he noticed there was a problem, and wanted to do something about it.

“I came past it several times and noticed how high it was getting, you can see where we have veteran's here with the flags sticking up, and you can see where people have mowed to their loved ones site just to get to it and put flowers or something. It kind of touched us a little bit,” explained Anderson.

Anderson said the group didn't think they could finish on Sunday, so they'll be back as soon as possible to finish cutting the grass.

Anderson said he hoped that the community would see that the cemetery needs help, and more groups will volunteer to care for it.
