BRIDGEPORT -

Harrison County held it's Relay for Life Survivor Dinner as part of National Cancer Survivors day on Sunday.

It was held at the Best Western in Bridgeport.

Survivors and their caregivers came together celebrate survivorship, and support each other.

“We're just celebrating the survivors and giving them an opportunity to enjoy fellowship with each other and to talk with each other and that part is wonderful because the support there is wonderful. To know you are sitting next to someone who has been there done that, and you're not out there by yourself,” explained Mary Lough, who is with the American Cancer Society, and the wife of a 20-year survivor.

Betty Grogan, 83, is a 38-year breast cancer survivor.

She attended the dinner and said she feels lucky to be surrounded by other survivors.

“It's wonderful to meet other people who have survived because a lot of people didn't survive. I just thank god every day for another day that he gave me because my whole immediate family died with cancer. Every day I try to do something for somebody else,” explained Grogan.

Both Grogan and Lough have been involved with the Harrison County Relay for Life since it started 20 years ago.

That will be held on Friday at Bridgeport High School starting at 6 p.m.
