RALEIGH COUNTY - UPDATE:

The West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training has confirmed that Mike Cook, who was injured in an accident on Saturday, June 7 has been released from the hospital.  Cook was hurt at the Marfork Coal Slip Ridge #1 mine, owned by Alpha Natural Resources.  An investigation into what happened in under way.


ORIGINAL STORY:

The West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training (WVOMHS&T) confirmed a serious incident occurred Saturday afternoon, June 7 at Alpha Natural Resources' Marfork Coal Slip Ridge #1 Mine in Raleigh County.

One miner was seriously injured and was transported to a local medical facility, but no additional injuries were reported. 

WVOMHS&T inspectors were at the mine, but no additional information has been released.
