Local Musicians Take the Stage for PattyFest 2014

Posted: Updated:
Dozens of Old-Time musicians came out to Fairmont on Saturday to honor the life of a well-known mentor in the community.

Patty Looman passed away in 2012, but her memory still lives on every year at PattyFest, which includes workshops, an open stage, a square dance and jam sessions. Organizers said Looman spent much of her life teaching students the lap dulcimer and hammer dulcimer.

"She never said no to any child or any person that wanted to play mountain music, and she was just terrific," said Buck Owens, president of PattyFest.

"I just like the pretty music, and I knew Patty Looman. She was from Mannington, I'm from Mannington," said Luther Michael, a local musician who came out to teach some of the workshops.

This is the 12th year of PattyFest. This year's celebration was held at East Fairmont High School.
