Smart Tag Engages Owners in Dog's Life

Denver Launch Party and Indiegogo Campaign Kicks Off June 25

DENVER, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A serial entrepreneur and one of the pet industry's most prolific product designers have fused their talents with the invention of the Pettag+™, the first connected device that tracks the essential activities of training and raising a happy, healthy pet. The simple collar tag connects the pet to the owner's smart phone through a Bluetooth interface and activity buttons – Food, Love, Play – to help track, manage and motivate a family, or a child with their first pet, to be responsible owners.

"Pettag+ is about the next generation of engagement in your pet's life within an ecosystem of apps and products that track and share information around feeding schedules, play, potty training, exercise, and a variety of actions from medication adherence and vaccinations to random acts of love," said Shahir Ahmed, founder and emerging tech startup veteran.

As a busy, traveling professional, Ahmed wanted the ability to see that his dogs were fed, loved and played with while he was on the road. "I discovered a product roadmap that could connect with human behavior on many levels and help new pet owners, parents and kids manage this important responsibility," he said. "Millions of pets are lost because people return them to the pound after they give up on potty training. Millions of kids beg their parents for a pet, promise to take care of them, but then lose interest in a few weeks. By connecting your pet, your devices and your social networks on the 'Internet of Everything,' we've developed measurement criteria that tracks accountability, helps adults raise their kids, and disciplines everyone to be responsible for their pets' health and happiness."

Kids today learn rules from games, and award-winning pet product designer Peter Ragonetti wanted to create a playful interface. "Our fun, inviting design is tied to rewards-based incentives that help build stronger bonds between people and their pets," he said. "The Pettag+ is rugged yet attractive, runs on a watch battery, and is half the cost of today's GPS-based systems. Our focus is more about playful engagement: choosing goals, tracking activities and viewing progress – anything from counting the number of fetches and tracking your walks to confirming that your dog's health requirements are being met."

As one of the first "connected pet wearables," the Pettag+ founders chose Denver's SpireMedia to design the User Interface, ReFactory in Brooklyn to build the American-made circuit boards, and Indiegogo to crowdfund the first user-inspired applications.

"In celebration of this product launch and crowdfunding campaign, we're inviting everyone in the Denver pet community to join us at SpireMedia for food, drinks, and pre-ordering the first Pettags," said Ahmed.
