The town of Granville wants to add paid firefighters to its payroll.
Currently, there's a volunteer-only company and firefighters said it's getting harder to find volunteers.
The Granville VFD is responsible for University Town Center and they said it's becoming too big to just rely on volunteers. Leaders want the company to become a commendation, meaning a mix of up to 5 paid firefighters and volunteers.
"This is a win, win for everybody because I believe that their insurance rates will come down for fire insurance. It could bring the ISO rating down to a three, which is the same as Morgantown. And I think people could see a substantial saving on their fire insurance," said Ron Snyder, Granville Municipal Administrator.
The State Fire Marshal has to approve the plan, which Granville officials hope will happen by July.
