The City of Spencer and the Sal font Chapter of Trout Unlimited have teamed up to offer a free fly fishing clinic at 6 p.m. July 17.

The two-hour clinic will teach the basics of fly fishing, such as equipment and casting. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

“To many of us, fishing is about more than just catching fish; it is about the total experience,” said Philip Smith, president of the Sal font Chapter. “Many of us in TU have discovered that the time-honored sport of fly fishing is something to fall in love with.

Smith said the Sal font Chapter is not a fly fishing club, but its members wanted to spread their passion for the sport. The TU chapter may offer a longer, more detailed course in the winter if there is enough interest.
