Celebrates its 40th Anniversary by sponsoring fireworks shows around the state
CHICAGO, July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of its 40th Anniversary, the Illinois Lottery returns as a sponsor of 4th of July fireworks shows across the state – personifying the Lottery's oft-repeated slogan-"Anything's Possible."
"It's wonderful that the Lottery can help various communities celebrate the 4th of July with a traditional fireworks display," said Illinois Lottery Director Michael Jones. "Over the last forty years the lottery has proudly generated billions of dollars for schools, roads, and special causes like supporting Veterans programs, breast cancer research, AIDS awareness and prevention and MS research programs throughout our beautiful state."
This summer, the Lottery is helping to make Independence Day shows even more extraordinary on July 4. Peoria and East Peoria residents can view the RED, WHITE and BOOM! Fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. on both sides of the Riverfront. At Navy Pier in Chicago, the Lottery is the presenting sponsor of the Fireworks show on the 4th. The Champaign County Freedom Celebration will be held this year at 9:15 p.m. at the University of Illinois parking lot E14. Residents of Rockford will be able to view their fireworks celebration at 9:30 p.m. at Davis Park.
The lottery sold its first ticket on July 1, 1974. Since then, it has generated more than $18 billion for the common good in Illinois.
