One man is behind bars after sheriff's deputies say he shot another man early Thursday morning.
The shooting happened inside a home along Orchard Drive in Cross Lanes.
Investigators say that Dustin Wayne Bodkins, 29, is being charged for the murder of Timothy Morris of St. Albans. He is also being charged with wanton endangerment for pointing a gun at his ex-fiance, Lindsey Winans. Deputies say Winans and Bodkins own the home together but recently separated.
According to a criminal complaint, Bodkins arrived at his residence at about 3 in the morning looking for acid reflux medication. While Winans looked for the medication, Bodkins began opening doors and searching through rooms. He eventually found Timothy Morris hiding inside one of the closets and a fight ensued. Bodkins grabbed a pistol and began firing shots. Morris was struck by at least one of the bullets.
Bodkins then pointed the gun at Winans and threatened to kill her and then himself. As the two walked through the residence, Winans said they passed Morris's body and she could hear him moaning and he was still alive. Winans told deputies Bodkins began to kick Morris in the head.
Deputies say Winans was able to make it out of the home and called 911. Bodkins was arrested after barricading himself inside the house. Kanawha Sheriff's SWAT entered and took him into custody. SWAT used a TASER device to help subdue him. Deputies say they did find a loaded handgun on the suspect.
