Petco in Morgantown Joins In On National Adoption Weekend

Posted: Updated:
MORGANTOWN - National Adoption Weekend was held at Petco stores all around the country.

Petco in Morgantown has various adoption weekends all year long, but it was especially important to raise awareness on Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteers said adoption is important for not only the animal, but for the owner as well.

"Oh my goodness it's extremely important. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to adopt a homeless animal, to give them another chance, and to bring them into your life because your both going to benefit from it," said Vicki Aucremanne, volunteer at P.U.R.R. West Virginia.

P.U.R.R. West Virginia brought about 15 cats to the store in hopes of finding good homes for all of the kittens. All cats eligible for adoption are in good health and are up to date on their shots.

Events like this one allow people to come out, and get used to being around the different animals available for adoption.

"It's also important from the aspect of the cat. To get them out among people, sounds, noises, dogs people come in with dogs, little kids, older people, and everything. So as a socialization event for the kitties it's also important so it works good for both ways," Aucremanne said.

There are many kittens in particular available for adoption. Just in the past few months P.U.R.R. has collected 40 to 50 litters.

P.U.R.R. comes to Petco on the first and second Saturday's of each month.

Anyone is eligible to adopt a pet. It's easy to fall in love once you meet the animals in person. An interview process is done before the adoption to inform the owners of proper health guidelines for the animal.
