WV School Board returns local control of Preston County Schools

Posted: Updated:
The Preston County Board of Education will again be in control of its schools, after the West Virginia Board of Education voted July 9 to return the county to local control.

The transition to local control will begin Aug. 1, 2014, but will be provisional for two years. The current superintendent will remain in place for two years, and the transfer of control on issues related to finance, personnel, instructional programs, facilities and other decision-making authority for the local board will take place “according to statutory provisions and WVBE policies,” according to information from the state Board of Education.

The state assumed control of Preston County schools in 2009.
