Should Marijuana be legal in West Virginia?

Raleigh County WV -  More and more states are allowing legal marijuana sales. Now we're wondering what you think about West Virginia doing the same?

West Virginia's Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, told 59 News that West Virginia has enough to deal with and it would add more problems to drug abuse in the state.

"I think it's something we have to be really careful about. If you create a new portal in then you could run into some of the same issues with the oxycontin mess and the prescription pill issues we've been battling for a long time," Morrisey said.

As of now 23 states have legalized marijuana for medical use, but most states don't see the ultimate benefit of legalizing the substance for recreational use.

"I think it's something we have to be really careful about," Morrisey said.

West Virginia Attorney General says he thinks West Virginia has it's hands full already..and legalization would only put more issues on the table.

Melonie Terry works for a support group and witnesses drug abuse daily and shares the same opinion as Morrissey.

"We would be opening up pandoras box, not really knowing what to expect at the end of the day, it's a revolving door," Terry Said.

Some officials believe The legalization would lead to harder drugs.

"I've been very sensitive to not opening up new doors to substance abuse," Morrisey said.

Morrisey doesn't doubt that legalizing marijuana will bring in money to West Virginia, but he believes more bad will come than good.
