Jim Harvey, top vote-getter in the Democratic primary election in May, was sworn in Thursday, July 10, as the new Mingo county magistrate.

Harvey was administered the oath of office by Thirtieth Judicial Circuit (Mingo County) Judge Miki Thompson. He will serve until the winner of the November general election can be sworn in to replace former magistrate Dallas Toler, who resigned Oct. 9 after being indicted by a federal grand jury for voter registration fraud.

Toler, who has since pleaded guilty, was sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Senior Status Putnam County Magistrate Kim Blair had been filling in since Oct. 21.
