HINTON -

A ribbon cutting was held Thursday morning to celebrate the revitalization of the historic Coca-Cola mural in Hinton, WV. Workers have been restoring the mural since May.

The company itself donated $10,000 to the project. The original work is almost 100 years old.

"The sign has been in Hinton since 1916," said Lauren Steele, Senior Vice-President of Corporate Affairs for Coca-Cola Consolidated. "That was long before the world famous sign in Times Square. When they hadn't even thought of the Times Square sign, Hinton already had a Coke sign."

The town added the phrase "Welcome to Hinton" to the mural. Community members, the Mayor of Hinton and executives from the Coca -Cola company were there to celebrate.

Coca-Cola has revitalized about 15 other murals including one in Ronceverte.
