Hundreds of hours of community service work is underway this summer in Wyoming County.  It's all thanks to an AmeriCorps crew staying in Mullens for the next few months.

Friday the team of six members worked to clear brush from the Coal Heritage Guyandotte River Park near Wyoming East High School.  The trail was built last year with the help of the Boyscouts... and this year the AmeriCorps crew got it back to tip-top shape for everyone to use the rest of the summer.

The volunteers staying in Mullens said they thoroughly enjoy spending her days helping the citizens of Wyoming County.

Other projects to be enhanced are Community House restoration for Friends of Milam Creek, MOC Tourism enhancements, and Wyco Church Restoration which started on Thursday. The church's owners said they hope to use part of the church as a community center... but they're waiting for grant money to come available to finish a complete renovation of the historic building.

Each member of this Americorps team comes from a different part of the country or even the world, and they say so far the people here are making them feel right at home.
