CLARKSBURG -

During the summer months it may feel humid outside, but the humidity under your house in your crawl space can be even higher.

A Clarksburg business said leaving your crawl space untreated can jeopardize the health of your home, and your family.

“You have this cool environment, the warm air blows into it, and instead of raining you get condensation that forms on your cool surfaces. Moisture in a crawl space or basement can lead to mold, mildew, which decays the building materials number one and number two it will affect the air quality of the house,” explained Pat Edwardson, with Basement Systems of West Virginia.

Edwardson also says the vents on your crawl space can help a little. They should be closed in the summer to keep some of that warm air out of the space.

If you think you might have a problem in your crawl space, but don't want to actually go into it, Basement System does free inspections.

Basement Systems previously spoke with WBOY about crawl spaces, and how properly treated ones can help the quality of the air in your home. You can find those stories by clicking here and here.
