Kids Participating in the Harrison County Junior Police Academy

Posted: Updated:
Area kids are taking time this summer to go through police officer training.

More than 50 cadets are attending the annual Harrison County Junior Police Academy.

Today, they learned how to handcuff a criminal and watched a self defense demonstration.

The academy focuses on crime scene investigation, fire safety, and four wheeler safety.

“We want to show kids, one that police officers are their friends, we’re here to help them, we’re here to protect them, we’re here to protect people however that may be. We want them to trust us, we want them to come to us with problems. We want them to see what police officers do from our perspectives so they have a better understanding of what we do,” said Officer Jamie Hamrick, Bridgeport Police Department.

The Fraternal Order of Police Mountaineer Lodge 78, sponsors the free camp.
