Buckhannon Police Department Adjusting To New Location

BUCKHANNON -

The Buckhannon Police Department is adjusting to its new location.

The police department finally moved into its new headquarters in July.

"We very pleased with having our own building, and actually having a place that looks like a police department now," said Chief Matt Gregory.

It's a project that's been years in the making. Transforming an existing building into a public safety complex currently home to the Buckhannon Fire Department, and now the city's police department.

"One of the differences between the old department versus the new department is the amount of space for each of the officers and a chance of future growth within in the department," Gregory said.

Gregory said the reason for the move was a lack of space at its former location, Buckhannon City Hall. The new police department has its own lobby and 11 rooms for officers, nine of which are currently being used. There's also an evidence room, interrogation room, and briefing room. Gregory said it's all part of planning for the future of the department.

"The new building has really remedied that. There's a space for everything. Everybody has their own space. When this building was designed and when we were in the discussion phases of designing this building it was not designed for the present, but for the future," Gregory said.

Gregory said the department and its new headquarters are off to a good start and they're ready to move forward.

"We really a far cry from where we were, at City Hall. Again it feels like finally a police station and we're organizing to that respect."

An open house is being planned for next month.
