Community Participation Program Funds Grant to Help With Future Palatine Park Development

Posted: Updated:
Marion County Commission has accepted a contract for the 'West Virginia Community Participation Program Funds' for development at Palatine Park.

An economic development official was in Charleston on Wednesday to help secure that $15,000 grant, which will pay for fencing around the new playground.

Commissioner Butch Tennant said officials are working to meet the needs of folks using the Splash Park, but they need the community to meet them halfway.

"We do have some more picnic tables ordered and benches. We are adding things, and a good example of that is the changing tables in the bathroom. We're down to one good umbrella now, and we're trying to maintain and fix them. We can't furnish everything. The park is free, but if we start spending a bunch of money, that's going to change the situation," said Tennant.

Tennant hopes the fence will be up within six weeks.
