CLARKSBURG -

Clarksburg City Council unanimously accepted modifications made to their building code made by the State Attorney General's Office and State Fire Marshal's Office in a previous special meeting.

Council held its second and final reading Thursday night for an ordinance to “adopt the state code and its supplemental regulations; building permits; and to amend the title of the codified ordinances from ‘Building Code’ to ‘Code Administration.’”

Council unanimously passed the adoption of the ordinance to clear up the issues brought against them by the State Attorney General's Office, and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

“Now that we’re in compliance we can proceed with our plans, and work under this building code; and we know we have the blessing of the Attorney General and the State Fire Marshal,” said Cathy Goings, Clarksburg Mayor.

Mayor Goings also said at a later time there could be a amendments made to the ordinance to clear up the definition of ordinary repairs. She also said once the definition of ordinary repairs is made then they can determine whether building permits are needed for a repair verses construction.

Clarksburg City Council is also preparing for a strategic plan meeting moving forward. Goings said they have had a plan and mission statement previously and they will be looking into revamping and putting a strategic plan in place.
