A two-vehicle collision along U.S. Route 50 near Fellowsville in Preston County sent two people to the hospital and led to one arrest early Thursday morning.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., the Preston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the collision. After an initial investigation, officers determined that John Zogal, 35, of Tunnelton, was traveling east along U.S. Route 50 and crossed the center line, striking a Ford F-150 traveling west. 

The Ford was being driven by John Lipscomb, 51, of Eglon. Two passengers, Gordon Sphar, 53, of Rowlesburg, and Kevin McDonough, 57, of Oakland, Md., were also riding in the truck with Lipscomb.

Sphar and McDonough were transported by Health Net to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

After further investigation, officers found that Zogal had been drinking alcohol. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence resulting in bodily injury.

Zogal was released on a $5,000 PR bond.
