Dozens of people are now indicted on drug-related charges from oxycodone distribution ring that took place in North Central West Virginia and investigators have a message for those who continue to deal drugs.

“If you’re an addict, get help. Help is available. If you know someone who is an addict, get them help. if you’re selling drugs, we’re coming after you and you’re going to jail,” said Chief Ed Preston of the Morgantown Police Department.

The investigation involved 33 people on a 129-count federal indictment. The Mon Metro Drug and Violent Crime Task Force led the investigation as part of the United States Office of National Drug Control Policy High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program (HIDTA).

Those accused come from Monongalia, Marion, Harrison, Lewis, Upshur and Preston Counties along with Detroit, Michigan.

“We go after the most violent offenders and drug dealers in the area and this is our commitment to you that we’re going to continue to work together, we’re going to continue to go after large groups, we’re going to tear them down and we’re going to keep the city safe and keep the drugs out,” said Greg Nelson, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge.

Investigators said the accused brought hundreds of thousands of pills into North Central West Virginia then re-distributed them.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is working to recover cash and property from the sale of these drugs.

“We dismantled a major operation that has ties to the Detroit area as well as basically the states in between, four counties in the Northern District of West Virginia and has made a major impact on an organization, dismantled an organization that distributed hundreds of thousands of pills,” said Randolph Bernard, U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division Chief.
