April 16 has been designated as ‘Children’s Memorial Flag Day’ in Upshur County.
Advocates, city and county leaders held a luncheon to show appreciation for people who fight child abuse.
Other events included proclamations signed by city council and county commission, and a memorial flag raising at the courthouse.
“This is the one time of the year that we get together and appreciate that we do some very difficult work. We see a lot of painful things, and it’s nice for everybody to get together and relax, and appreciate we’ve done a good year,” said Tracy Shroyer-Carlyle, of Mountain CAP of West Virginia
The memorial flag recognizes 3 million children reported abused or neglected in the United States each year.
